ON-GOING PROJECTS

• CERN/Tier-1/2 - Realization of the CERN-related Tier-1 storage- and compute grid-infrastructure as part of the Nordic-Tier-1 node.

• Dynamics of Gas Hydrat Formation - The project aims for an understanding under which conditions gas hydrates exist in oil and gas pipes. Methods from molecular dynamics using High-Performance-Computing are applied.

• eSysbio - an e-science environment for systems biology - will develop an envrionment for systems biology and use it to drive Norwegian research within this field. We will conduct research on Web services and semanticgrid technology, and use the results to build a collaborative virtual workspace that will facilitate the interdisciplinary exploitation of data, tools and computational resources relevant for systems biology research.

• Geological Storage of CO2 - The project investigates the storage of CO2 in geological formations, the characterization of its uncertainty and risk-related issues.

• HPC-EUROPA2 - Pan-European Research Infrastructure on High Performance Computing. HPC-EUROPA is an EU-funded I3 project with networking, research, and transnational access activities. The transnational access programme provides grants to European researchers for visits upto three months at one of six large HPC centres with some of the most powerful supercomputing facilities in Europe.

• NOTUR - The Notur project fulfills a pronounced and sustainable vision for a Norwegian infrastructure for High Performance Computing (HPC) and computational science. The vision of the project is to provide a modern, national HPC infrastructure in an international and competitive setting, and stimulate computational science as the third scientific path.

• NorGrid - The aim of the NorGrid project is to establish and maintain a national grid infrastructure in Norway. The project will provide grid-based services that enhance the utilization of the resources in the national infrastructure for computational science and facilitates transparent sharing of data between user groups.

• NorStore - The objective of the project is to establish and operate a national infrastructure that provides non-trivial services to scientific disciplines with a variety of needs for storing digital data. The infrastructure will provide easy, secure and transparent access to distributed storage resources, provide large aggregate capacities for storage and data transfer, and optimize the utilization of the overall resource capacity.

• Quantitative Brain Imaging in Health and Disease - The project is related to image processing using Grid- and High Performance Computing-facilities and workflow management.

• Parallelization of the ECOSystem MOdel ECOSMO to MPI-based HPC platforms - The project realizes the parallelization of the 3-d ECOSystem MOdel ECOSMO software under the MPI-programming model. Target platforms are massively parallel distributed memory machines.
